FH Depression
A positive Approach
Being aware of a time...
A time when we feel half alive, isolated, unable to cope, unlovable, grey, like we’re in a cloud that covers the sun.
A time when we experience mood swings, ill health, poor memory, inability to make decisions, disturbed sleep, loss of appetite and motivation, sense of worthlessness, unrelieved loneliness.
A time when our stress level is so high that our body steps in to prevent further damage
A time after a major problem or significant loss occurs
A time for slowing down, for reflecting, sorting, resting and evaluating our lives.
A time when we are afraid to experience angry or hurt feelings so we keep them suppressed.
What can I do?
- Talk
about it
- Be aware
of how you depress yourself. Our feelings follow our thoughts, so be aware of the thoughts we have that result in us feeling like this.
- Be with someone
or in some safe place and express the angry or hurt feelings that are depressed within.
- Learn to appreciate
little things each day - a flower, sunshine, a walk along the beach.
- Appreciate the times
when we are not depressed and prolong them.
- Attend to reducing stress levels
. Find ways of managing stress that are appropriate to you.
- Eat in a healthy,
balanced way.
- Exercise
regularly.
- Find new and creative
ways to relax each day.
- Replace negative thoughts
with positive ones...
For example…
I am now allowing my feelings to flow creatively through me
I love and accept myself
I am in touch with my feelings each day and allow them to flow
My feelings are my friends
You are a whole person
- What activity will you make in terms of your body?
- What approach will you make in terms of your soul or mind or thinking?
- What approach will you make in terms of your spirituality?
- Will you use a journal and learn new skills for expressing yourself and clearing things?
A spiritual affirmation...
The light of God surrounds me, The love of God enfolds me, The power of God protects me, watches over me, Where I am, God is
